After living in the Alentejo for more then ten years, we might say that this is not just a love affaire but true love! This is a serious and lasting relationship.
Before we moved to Portugal we travelled through the country from the North to the South and the other way round. Not a person but Portugal became our vacation fling. A beauty that we felt so attracted to, that we wanted to go back time after time. And finally we lost our heart in the Alentejo and call it home.
After having worked with several partners in the real estate business I started on my own 2 years ago.
The reason for me to join, is that my work is always based on trust and a lot of satisfied customers bring me new clients ie network.
My goal is to let people know that you can buy property in Southern Europe without any trouble. It is a fight against all stories about how often things go wrong. We work differently and often advice people not to buy because we feel that they make the wrong decission.
It´s all based on trust, and we have to prove ourselves everyday again.
We have been featured on a TV show called "A Place in the Sun" on Britisch Channel 4 and will be featured also on "Selling Houses Abroad" an "House Hunters".
After all those years I do have a very good knowledge about the real estate business and am able to prevent a lot of people making mistakes. Any query regarding Portugal and about real estate, starting a business, where to go, who to speak to, what you need etc. can be answered by me and if not, I know the persons who can answer those questions.
Things I like: Sun (I´m actually running on solar energy) beach, sea, traveling, holiday, music, fotography, honesty, keeping promisses, helping people, being puntual, good company, good wine and good food.
I love: My wife and my daughter
Things I dislike: War, people starving from hunger and illness while it´s not necessary, dishonesty, being late, rain, cold weather, fake promisses, not having enough time to do all the things I like.

Let us introduce ourselves, My name is Helen and my partner is Mike we will be retiring in 2007 and wanted to move from England and live abroad.
Mike has a successful business in the UK and I work with him. We have travelled a great deal and looked at many countries with a view to purchase a property and settle. After visiting Portugal many times we decided this was the place to be, the weather is perfect the people are friendly and the feeling of "home" sweeps over you as you start to explore the country.
We looked at the Algarve then the silver coast then we came upon a web site called Alentejohome. The site is easy to navigate, The descriptions of the properties are excellent and the photographs give a good indication of what to expect. We fell in love with one property in particular on our first visit to the site.
Due to travel commitments we where unable to view the property we had found on the internet for a number of weeks and as it seemed to have everything we were looking for, we called Bert and started asking questions about the house. Bert answered all of our questions and advised us to speak to Paul and Jane an English couple who after buying a house in the Alentejo area had moved into their home some months before.
The house sounded perfect so we made the decision to go ahead and buy it. We reserved the property with a deposit and we are now the proud owners of a lovely house with a pool and 7 acres of land.
Bert has been invaluable to us through out the purchasing process, He has been our guide through out.
From the initial enquiries to the transfer of deeds and the settling in period, Bert has been either by our side or on the other end of the phone. After a longtime of house & land hunting we found our piece of paradise in Portugal. Why did it take us so long?
Friends of us went through quite a lot with building a house in Portugal, this scared us off so we choose not to build but buy an existing house. We didn't want to go through that nightmare.
But fate decided differently; we fell in love with a beautiful piece of land without a building on it. Alentejo Home told us they could also offer building assistance.
After weighing the pros and cons over and over, we finally decided to go for it. Alentejo Home took care of the paper work and helped us find an architect and a constructor. Because of them the contacts were real smooth despite the fact we didn't speak Portuguese. (of course Alentejo Home does).
With each visit to Portugal we saw our dream come true bit by bit, being pleasantly surprised with the progress made time after time.
We found out that our constructor worked very efficiently and we were (and still are) very satisfied with him. Alentejo Home kept us informed with pictures and reports so we had nothing to worry about in Holland.
The house was finished within the time span planned. The final result was even better then we could have dreamed.
Do we dare to advice anyone to build in Portugal? The fact that we bought our second piece of land two weeks ago, says it all! On this land we will be building a few apartments for rent. We're building again with assistance of Alentejo Home of course.
A tip for aspirant buyers/builders: stick to the rules! Many people still think that in Portugal everything is permitted.
Those days are long past; Portugal is a EU member and has, like all other countries, building rules. Keep in mind that the paperwork can be a hassle and take a lot of time.
